The universe's fabric is intricately patterned with numbers. For the Sumuk Biennale 2021, themed 'One for All, All for One,' I found myself captivated by the number TEN. This numerical thread weaves together the elements of my artwork, comprised of ten pieces of paper. Amidst the pandemic's darkness, I sought solace in creativity to alleviate the emotional weight that had long troubled me.
Inspiration struck close to home in Tennessee, USA, where I've resided for eighteen months. I gathered a stone from my surroundings, transforming it, along with my body, into instruments of art. Brushing ink onto the stone, I scraped and moved it across ten textured watercolor papers for over half an hour. The stone's heaviness mirrored my inner turmoil, gradually releasing as it imprinted its presence on the paper.
Through this visceral process, I exhausted myself yet found relief. By transposing my mental landscape onto paper, I freed myself from the burden I'd carried for so long. This artwork embodies my cathartic journey, a testament to the transformative power of creativity.
