memoire
acrylic and plastic paint on cardboard (relief and painting)

Every moment we pass, becomes a memory.
We preserve some memories consciously, while other memories are unknowingly preserved by time. Thousands of years later, people of new civilisations, in discovering the lives of their ancestors, would try to find meaning of the particles of memories left in letters and scripts which they will try to decipher.
With the passage of time, I too will join the rank of the ancients. No one will know the essence of my joy, pain, love and sadness at a distance of a thousand years. I will not exist, but fragments of my memory will remain. I feel as though I was born many times, as if I have always been all of those souls and more.

Concept and Material
Memory has always been the core concept of my work. The series 'Memoir' is the reflection of my memories, those are stored and resonating in the wall of my subconscious mind. Each of my work is a depiction of tiny part of the infinite area of the subconscious.
This is a relief work where I have partly peeled off the upper layer of the corrugated paper or cardboards to create impressions of the texts. Boxes of cartons were dismantled and composed to create the field in which my work could flourish. The remains of the first layer on the horizontal lined corrugated sheets spoke to me as of the unidentified narrative of human history and this is what we are all leaving behind for the future generations to get discovered.

On the other note, the infinite potential of the material that lies within is often not realised, which is for me similar to a human life. After purchasing any item packed in cardboard boxes, they always seems ready to get turned into something else. I want my works to represent and begin dialogues with the audience . The working process is always magical and surprising to me. instead of throwing them out as trash they become invaluable expressions for my life. and additionally saving nature in a great way too.

Why black

Each person’s moments are written in his or her own alphabets on the wall of the hidden part of the mind – the subconscious area. I visualise the subconscious mind as an infinite wall hidden in darkness and so I found it black. Whenever we retrieve memories, we put light on the subconscious wall and the texts become visible.
