and my journey began....
Artist Statement
I spent a part of my childhood in Libya, where I had the rare opportunity to experience many remnants of Roman civilization. The Bangladeshi community living there in the 80s would often go on picnics amongst those ancient places every weekend. Even when my father took us to different cities, we'd stop for refreshments and sit on broken parts of columns, obelisks, or temples from the Roman era.
This ignited my curiosity about the people who used to live in those structures and who built them and why. The marks and unknown writings on those ruins, scattered all around Libya, later shaped my artistic expression, unknowingly. My travels to numerous archaeological sites worldwide and absorption of ancient literature and philosophies added perspective to my artistic journey, compelling me to express myself in diverse methods and mediums.
I travel through time. My eyes can see only memories - the memories we leave behind as individuals and as species. I question myself about my responsibility as a human, my role in contributing to a better world for the future generations, and whether it's worth the marks I am leaving behind through each of my words and actions.
I see myself in the mirror of any human who has ever lived. Expressing my subconscious through artistic practice allows me to excavate my thought process and behavior, striving to better make my existence meaningful for society and the time I live in.
